Read the history
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Uhud is a mountain that loves us and we love it” (Sahih al-Bukhari). In 3 AH the Muslims fought the Quraysh at its foot. When the archers on the small hill now called Jabal al-Rumah left their positions, the battle turned and seventy companions were martyred.
Among them was Hamzah ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him), the uncle of the Prophet (peace be upon him), known as the Master of Martyrs. The martyrs are buried in the walled cemetery beside the Sayyid al-Shuhada mosque.
