The valley of white tents where pilgrims stay during Hajj, home to the Jamarat and the historic Masjid al-Khayf.
Why it matters
Seeing Mina outside the Hajj season helps pilgrims understand the days of Hajj and the story of Ibrahim, Hajar and Ismail (peace be upon them).
Read the history
Mina lies about 7 kilometres east of the Haram. During Hajj, pilgrims stay here in tens of thousands of fireproof tents and stone the Jamarat, the pillars that mark where Ibrahim (peace be upon him) rejected the whispers of Shaytan.
Masjid al-Khayf, at the foot of the southern mountain, is where the Prophet (peace be upon him) prayed during his Hajj. A hadith reported by al-Tabarani mentions that many prophets prayed there.
