The first mosque built in Islam, founded by the Prophet (peace be upon him) on his arrival at Madinah. Praying here carries the reward of an Umrah.
Why it matters
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that whoever purifies himself at home, then comes to Masjid Quba and prays in it, has a reward like that of an Umrah (Ibn Majah, al-Nasa'i).
Read the history
When the Prophet (peace be upon him) reached Quba during the Hijrah, he stayed several days and laid the foundation of this mosque with his companions. The Qur’an praises “a mosque founded on piety from the first day” (al-Tawbah 9:108), which many scholars understand to include Masjid Quba.
He would visit it every Saturday, walking or riding, and pray two rak’ahs there (Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim).
