Read the history
Masjid al-Ghamamah stands on the old prayer ground (musalla) south west of the Prophet’s Mosque, where the Prophet (peace be upon him) led the two Eid prayers and the prayer for rain. Its name, the Mosque of the Cloud, is linked by tradition to the cloud that shaded him or the rain that followed his dua.
The nearby Masjid Abu Bakr and Masjid Ali mark places where, by tradition, these companions also led Eid prayers on the same ground. The present buildings date mainly from the Ottoman period.
