Why it matters

Visiting al-Baqi' follows the Sunnah of praying for the believers and reminds us of the generation that carried Islam to the world.

Read the history

Al-Baqi’ has been the main cemetery of Madinah since the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him), who would visit it at night and pray for its people, as reported in Sahih Muslim.

Thousands of companions are buried here, including Uthman ibn Affan, wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him), his daughters, his son Ibrahim and many of the Ahl al-Bayt (may Allah be pleased with them all). The graves are simple and unmarked.
