A historic mosque near al-Mu'alla, built where a group of jinn listened to the Prophet (peace be upon him) reciting the Qur'an.
Why it matters
A reminder that the message of Islam was sent to both mankind and jinn, and of the power of the Qur'an to move every heart that truly listens.
Read the history
The mosque stands in the area of al-Hajun. The event it remembers is described in Surah al-Jinn (72:1-2) and Surah al-Ahqaf (46:29): a group of jinn heard the Qur’an being recited and believed.
According to the narrations in Sahih Muslim, the jinn came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) at this place and he recited the Qur’an to them. The mosque is also called Masjid al-Bay’ah in some older books, after the jinn’s pledge.
